Is a London-based writer, film programmer and senior managing editor at MUBI.

Sophia writes regularly on art and film for Sight & Sound, MUBI Notebook and ArtReview. Her writing has also appeared in ElephantAnother Gaze, i-D, Curzon Journal, Time Out, VICE, AnOther Man, Sleek, Wonderland, and in various film-related books, academic journals and trade publications. Sophia is a member of the British Art Network and the Critics’ Circle, and has a doctorate in Film Studies from King’s College London, with a particular research interest in the connection between light shows, intermediality, experimental film and psychedelic art, the subject of her upcoming monograph.

As a freelance programmer, she has curated film screenings for the British Film Institute, Open City Documentary Festival, Tyneside Cinema, Regent Street Cinema, the Horse Hospital, Eye Film Museum (Amsterdam), Joe’s Garage (Amsterdam), and Mint Collective (Marrakesh Biennale). Over the last decade, Sophia has participated in a wide range of cultural events, workshops and international academic symposia at venues including the Royal Albert Hall, Close-Up Cinema, the Garden Cinema, Onoma Gallery (Fiskars, Finland), Muse Gallery, Rich Mix, the Slovenian Cinematheque (Ljubljana), Wolverhampton Art Gallery, and the Institute of Contemporary Arts (London).
